Today we are o-so-happy for two reasons: firstly we are sharing all the wonderful wedding photos of my sister (and fellow Wedding Planner) Stella AND we see it featured on Style My Pretty (be sure to check it out)!!! You may recall my own 'secret' wedding in Venice and sharing my thoughts and tips for Brides to Be. So here is Stella's very own story (and version from a Brides' point of view) on her Vintage Style wedding held in Athens: Moscha, Evangelia and I have organized many weddings around Greece but mainly in the Cycladic Islands. I absolutely love summer weddings but I adore winter weddings. The historical center of Athens holds a special place in our hearts. The energy both Tassos and I feel when we stroll around Plaka and Dionusiou Areopagitou is just so magical and intense; we love all things- ancient Greek. A few years ago I assisted in the coordination of a wedding at Agia Sophia Chapel…and at that moment told myself that if I were to marry then this would be the church. So when Tassos proposed I shared with him this ‘dream’ of mine; we visited the chapel a few weeks later and we both agreed this was the place for us to start as ‘Husband & Wife’. Athens is a stunning city and having the Parthenon ‘watching over & blessing our wedding’ was a wish come true. We both wanted to avoid having a big ‘etiquette’ wedding with formal dinners and decided to have an intimate celebration with close family and friends. We each got ready at our parent's house. Our beloved friend and guru of event design Litsa Floris of Floris Special Events set up the area I was getting ready which included a wonderful brunch and serene set up for keeping me calm!!! Cup cakes, mini chocolate flavored pastries, tea sandwiches and of course soumada: sour almond juice served traditionally at Greek weddings; all gracefully presented in family silverware and crystals.
Following the ceremony we spent two hours with Nikos Gogas and the crew of WedFilms shooting around the alleyways and narrow streets of Plaka whilst our guests where having a casual lunch at the New Acropolis Museum. It was a gloriously sunny day, Tassos and I were really happy and relaxed and we enjoyed every minute of that walk.
We met back with everyone at the Polis Art Café right in the heart of Athens Business District. It was in fact Tasos idea to use Polis Art Café as this marked the start of our relationship- and he was so right. There was no sit down dinners or speeches; just lot’s of dancing, feathers and Chocolate!!!!!!!!!! Everybody loved the signature cocktails by the superb team of Bar Etc, the masks to celebrate the start of the Greek mardis gras and the white chocolate cameos. I want to thank Markos Machairopoulos of MR.CO who so kind-heartedly helped bring to life my 50’s themed - feathers – and all things black concept with the valuable help of Studio 7 Florescence .
So much energy and labor goes into the design and planning of a wedding. My advice to any bride is simply this: enjoy this experience. It is easy to get caught up in color combinations, menu tastings, and cake fillings… but at the end of the day, this is about your love, and sharing that love with all of your favorite people. Things are bound to go wrong here & there. I even had a minor 'hiccup' with the wedding cake on the day (which almost no one noticed in the end). But guess what? That’s okay! On your wedding day, make sure you pause and take it in…all of these people are here for you, to celebrate with you!
