A Greek Island Wedding in Skiathos
Some weddings are defined by their setting and others by their design. Vasiliki and Konstantinos’ wedding in Skiathos was defined by something much harder to create: an atmosphere that made nobody want the night to end.
Vasiliki and Konstantinos cared deeply about how their guests would experience every part of the celebration: how they would arrive, what they would discover, where they would gather and, most importantly, how the evening would feel. So we planned a three day celebration in Skiathos that included a sunset meet & greet, the wedding day and a pool side farewell party.
And there was another layer to the story; while planning their wedding, the couple were simultaneously building a beach club from scratch and renovating an entire hotel. CAY Skiathos, which would become the setting for their celebration, was quite literally taking shape alongside the wedding itself. As the venue evolved, so did our plans. Floor plans changed, spaces developed and new ideas emerged on an almost weekly basis. We worked closely with the couple and an incredible team of professionals, refining the layouts, guest flow and design as the venue approached completion.
The result was a celebration that felt completely at home in Skiathos. The Greek Orthodox ceremony was held at the picturesque Metropolis of Skiathos port. Following the wedding ceremony guests were welcomed to CAY with a cocktail hour overlooking the Aegean, where live music set the tone and a Diptyque perfume bar added an unexpected sensory element to the experience. It was elegant without feeling formal, sophisticated without losing the warmth and spontaneity of a Greek island evening.
A custom photo backdrop quickly became one of the evening’s gathering points, with oversized sunglasses, hats and plenty of laughter creating photographs that became progressively less serious as the night went on. Later, Konstantinos disappeared behind the burger station and began cooking sliders for his own guests; perhaps the most perfect expression of the spirit of the entire celebration.
Long after dinner had ended, the party was still going, because nobody seemed remotely interested in leaving. For us, this is what destination wedding planning in Greece should ultimately be about. The flowers, furniture, lighting and details matter enormously, but they are there to create something greater: an experience that belongs to the couple and to the place.
